Just months ago, Gucci announced it would no longer use fur in its designs, and now the Italian label has revealed another fabric it is culling from its collections. The brand, helmed by creative director Alessandro Michele, will no longer use angora in its pieces, WWD reports, joining labels such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, which have already stopped using the fiber that comes from the angora rabbit.
While Gucci executives declined to comment to WWD, the news was revealed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). “Gucci has taken an important step toward eliminating cruelty in its designs by banning angora wool,” PETA executive vice-president Tracy Reiman said in a statement.

The news follows Gucci’s announcement in 2017 that the house would stop making fur products beginning with its Spring 2018 collections. In addition to banning fur, the Kering-owned megabrand has joined forces with the Fur Free Alliance, an organization that aims to end the fur trade. In going fur-free, Gucci joined the ranks of other major fashion brands including Giorgio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Stella McCartney (McCartney has been fur-free since launching her brand).
“When the Humane Society worked with Gucci to ban fur last year, we knew the positive promotion they’d receive would lead to additional animal protection policies,”Kitty Block, acting president and chief executive officer of the US Humane Society, told WWD. “By banning angora, Gucci’s leadership again shows that luxury fashion brands can do well by doing good.”
