Has Gigi Hadid created the must-have sneaker of the season? It seems so. On Friday, the half-Palestinian model dropped a four-piece capsule collection that she co-designed with Reebok, putting a rugged spin on the label’s classic Freestyle Hi and Aztrek sneakers. (Fun fact: According to Reebok, the Freestyle Hi was created in 1982 as the “first fitness sneaker ever designed for women”).
Hadid’s version of those throwback favorites are much chunkier and tougher than the originals. Her updated Aztrek runners ring in at US$110 (AED 404) and are available in two different colorways: black with pops of highlighter yellow, and white with a dose of orange. The style most likely to sell out? The all-black incarnation of the Freestyle Hi that’s going for US$130 (AED 477) and has a gritty, tactile hiking boot–style sole with major Lara Croft vibes.
Though the news might come as a surprise, the Hadid-designed sneaker was bound to happen one day. The model is among a crew of highly enthusiastic fashion sneaker heads, (we see you, Bella!), who helped put the the wildly popular grandpa and club-kid footwear on the map in 2018. (Plus, she has a successful design track record: Her see-now-buy-now collection with Tommy Hilfiger was a social media sensation hit.) We have a hunch that stylish shoefies of the new kicks will be flooding Instagram soon enough.
