The Egyptian Fashion and Design Council (EFDC) has launched a new platform in support of Egyptian designers and brands. Over sixty local brands can be discovered covering jewelry, bags, and clothing on the Fashion Hub. It is being updated daily, with new brands added, the latest being fine jeweler Azza Fahmy. The site features brands including Huwa, Camicie, Sandbox Lab, Asory, and Hisham Aboul Ela.

During such unprecedented times incited by the ongoing pandemic, fashion retailers are looking for new ways to overcome challenges. Paul Antaki, president of the EFDC is well aware, stating, “Designers, especially emerging ones, are vulnerable and are in great need of support. This is why this Hub has been created.” He adds, “Egyptian brands need to extend their notability, work closer with their colleagues and whereby important manufacturers and retailers may include them in their future strategy once this crisis is behind us.” EFDC member Susan Sabet considers support during such a time to be even more important than ever, stating, “Providing a platform to help designers and brands build further reach and awareness is the first step in the plan.”
In the coming days, a Zoom talk will connect designers to discuss current issues and challenges. Fatma Ghaly, managing director of Azza Fahmy, also featured on the Hub, will also discuss how designers can use the downtime to market their respective brands. The Hub serves to connect designers with online retail outlets, with Mitcha.com acting as the leading shopping platform for Egyptian designers.
The EFDC, based in Cairo, was founded in 2019 with the aim to aid students, burgeoning and established designers, and industry members with support initiatives and programs including internships, scholarships, work placements, mentorships, events, and awards.
