In a Royal First, the Duchess of Sussex Makes a Surprise Appearance Via Skype

While Prince Harry is in Malawi, the Duchess of Sussex has been tuning in from afar. As the Duke met with a group of female charity workers, Meghan, who wore an olive green Lisa Marie Fernandez dress, surprised the women by joining in via Skype from South Africa.

Appearing on a TV screen in the library of the Nalikule College of Education in Lilongwe, Meghan joined in with the women as they welcomed her. The couple spent the afternoon learning how the women and girls have been educated in Malawi by Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED).

“I wish I could be with you, we’re in South Africa right now, Archie’s taking a nap. I’m with you in spirit,” the Duchess told the room. Since 2011, CAMFED has received support from the Department for International Development, providing education bursaries for more than 35,000 girls.

“Now the British Government is expanding the work of Cama in Malawi, through training over 900 Cama members to become leaner guides as well,” Harry told the female advocates. “These young leaders will go back into rural schools and support over 66,000 girls in their learning and confidence so they succeed in their education, graduate in school and help take Malawi forward.”
