Residents in Dubai can now get a Covid-19 PCR test done in a few of the emirate’s shopping malls. The latest announcement made by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) states that residents will be able to book appointments for a Covid-19 test at malls across Dubai where PCR testing stations have been set up.

Currently, these stations are located at Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif and City Centre Deira, which will be accepting citizens and residents seven days a week from 11am to 6pm with prior appointment, according to the DHA. One testing station can conduct 180 PCR tests per day, with each test costing AED 150. The result of this test will be sent to the person within 24 hours. To book an appointment, residents must call the DHA toll-free number 800DHA (800342).

However, the DHA stressed that those with the symptoms of Covid-19 which include coughing and fever, must not get tested for the virus at the mall in order to avoid the potential spread of infection. This service is specific to the residents who are required to get tested prior to travel, and for other non-medical reasons.

The setting up of PCR testing stations in Dubai is in line with the DHA’s aim to make Covid-19 testing more accessible to people. It is also a part of the UAE’s early-detection strategy to encourage more people to get tested so that potential cases of infection can be identified and isolated before the virus spreads further.

Upon their opening, Humaid Al Qutami, Director-General of the DHA, visited all three Covid-19 PCR testing stations along with Dr Amer Ahmad Sharif, Head of Dubai’s Covid-19 Command and Control Centre, Dr Farida Al Khaja, CEO of DHA’s Clinical Support Services and Nursing Sector, Ahmed Al Nuaimi, CEO of Joint Corporate Support Services and other high-level officials. The PCR testing stations are manned by certified medical staff and follow strict health and safety standards that are in line with local and international protocols.
