Naomi Campbell Joins Industry Experts on the 2019 LVMH Prize Jury

Last month, LVMH opened its applications for the LVMH Prize 2019 for Young Fashion Designers, and over the weekend, revealed the panel of jurors who will be choosing the finalists.

LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has asked Naomi Campbell to join the expert committee for the sixth edition of the award. The former Vogue Arabia cover star will join 15 other newcomers, from the worlds of fashion media and e-commerce, on the prize panel. “I’m looking forward to being a new expert for the #lvmhprize2019 ✨” wrote the supermodel on Instagram.

With a career spanning three decades, Campbell has walked for everyone from Versace to Alaïa while breaking down myriad industry barriers along the way. While diversity may now be fashion’s buzzword, Campbell was changing the game before it was even first murmured, appearing on the cover of Vogue Paris in 1988, the first black model to do so. A year later, she also become the first model of color to grace the cover of American Vogue’s September issue, firmly cementing her status as an industry luminary, and making her a fitting addition to the panel.

She will be joining other newcomers including Italian influencer Chiara Ferragni, Rami Atallah, cofounder and chief executive officer of Ssense; Aizel Trudel, founder of Russian e-commerce site Aizel.ru; blogger Aimee Song; founder of Hypebeast Kevin Ma; stylist Marie Chaix; documentary maker Loïc Prigent, and Edward Enninful, editor-in-chief of British Vogue, among others. They will join a lineup of heavyweight experts like Karlie Kloss, Suzy Menkes, and Sarah Andelman. The panel now counts a total of 62 experts.

“It is important that the diversity of experts be a reflection of the diversity of styles and realities in our industry,” Executive Vice President of Louis Vuitton and founder of the LVMH Prize, Delphine Arnault told Vogue. “The presence of influencers like Aimee Song and Chiara Ferragni, for instance, is a novelty in the Prize and reflects their growing clout in our field,” she stated.

Applications for the prestigious prize close on February 4. In the meantime, you can apply online.
