While the spring collections advocate head-to-toe color blocking and monochrome outfits befitting of a fashion extrovert, rainbow accessories are now making a comeback to set the tone in advance of 2017––according to the street style circuit, the neutral color trend had passed. In attendance at the collections, fashion editors, off-duty models, and designers alike belonged to one of two camps: those daring to experiment with unexpected color combinations, and the sartorial traditionalists who preferred to keep their wardrobes muted. Surprise, scene-stealing color clashes included rich purple, orange and red, as seen on Eleonora Carisi in Milan and Style.com’s Yasmin Sewell at London Fashion Week.
On the spring runways, Alessandro Michele’s unapologetic love of color was evident for all to see when he sent pepto pink fur chubbies down the Gucci runway; every element of the outfit was color coordinated, down to the hosiery. Elie Saab explored the full color spectrum in ‘70s multicolored stars and motifs on a safe base of black, whereas J.W.Anderson, at the helm of luxury leather house Loewe, teamed purple handkerchief dresses with pillar box red.
To set the tone for next season’s penchant for explorative color, Loewe’s latest drop of luxury handbags is just in across the roster of global retailers––you can’t miss them. The leather Elephant bag gets an overhaul in rainbow stripes, while the Puzzle and T Pouch make it easy for color-clashing beginners to get a headstart on the trend.
