Naomi Campbell is one of fashion’s most photographed faces (and Vogue Arabia’s November cover star), and you can meet her this week. We’re bringing the legendary supermodel to The Dubai Mall this week, as part of Vogue Loves Fashion Avenue, a 10-day celebration that marks the lifestyle destination’s 10th anniversary.
Campbell will kick off our bulging calendar of events on Thursday, November 15, as she jets into Dubai for an exclusive, intimate appearance. Taking to our custom-created main stage in The Dubai Mall’s Fashion Avenue, the star — who boasts three decades at the top of her game — will open up about her wide-reaching career in discussion with Vogue Arabia’s Editor-in-Chief, Manuel Arnaut.
The London-raised model, who was first scouted at 15, became one of the most in-demand models of the 1980s, before becoming one of the original ’90s “supers” along with models such as Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer. She has walked for everyone from Versace to Alaïa, and broken down myriad industry barriers along the way. While diversity may now be fashion’s buzzword, Campbell was changing the game before it was even first murmured, appearing on the cover of Vogue Paris in 1988, the first black model to do so. A year later, she also become the first model of color to grace the cover of American Vogue‘s September issue, firmly cementing her status as an industry luminary. However, Campbell’s talents are certainly not restricted to the runway; the model has also fronted TV shows, appeared in music videos, and has become a passionate champion for disadvantaged families and women around the world. The model founded Fashion for Relief in 2005, an organization that has since raised funds for those affected by disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and 2011’s devastating earthquake in Japan.
In short, Campbell’s inimitable career is so vast and noteworthy that she could talk all evening and still only scrape the surface of her stratospheric impact. Following her on-stage conversation with Arnaut, the model will also be signing copies of her November 2018 Vogue Arabia cover in an unmissable event — so make sure you get there early. Mark the date in your calendar now to ensure you witness a truly iconic moment in the making.
