2018 has certainly been Hailey née Baldwin‘s year – featuring a surprise engagement and a whirlwind marriage to pop sensation Justin Bieber – and she’s seeing out her meteoric 12 months on the cover of Vogue Arabia. The 22-year-old model is the face of our December issue, personifying the edition’s theme of minimalism meets maximalism with her delicate features adorned with lashings of pink shadow and glimmering gloss. A dual, stripped-back, black-and-white cover highlights the star’s fine bone structure, with her 10-carat engagement ring reflecting off her seemingly makeup-free skin.
However, don’t confuse thousands of media headlines dedicated to her name and numerous magazine covers with a desire for fame– in fact, the star actively shuns the spotlight. “I spend increasingly less time on social media,” the newlywed reveals in an accompanying interview. “This has helped me balance everything that comes with this life.” Indeed, even though Bieber was born into Hollywood royalty as the daughter of Stephen Baldwin and niece of actors Alec and Daniel, she doesn’t feel like she was raised as a stereotypical celebrity offspring.
“I got to have a normal childhood and teenage years. I didn’t start getting recognition on my own until I was around 19,” the model muses. “There are some ‘normal’ things I never did – like go to college – but I do think I was able to learn how to have a schedule, be on time, and be responsible, all because I started working at 17.” But could the industry thoroughbred, who scored her first fashion campaign in 2014 for French Connection, be preparing to step back from the limelight any time soon? The model opens up about her dream to start a family in our all-encompassing interview, though reveals the Bieber empire is not set to expand “any time soon.”
To help see you through party season in inimitable style– whether you believe that less is more or more is more – we showcase the best of the couture collections in a mesmerizing shoot, while our guide to after-dark makeup will teach you all you need to see you through parties, dinners, and dances galore. On the occasion of the UAE’s National Day, designers from the Emirates celebrate the vibrant, worldly atmosphere of the nation, while an in-depth feature explores how online streaming giant Netflix is changing the face of Arab cinema. Rounding out the issue is a series of 30-minute workouts to slot in during party season, a shoot with Laila Eloui, in which the Egyptian star oozes old-Hollywood glamour, and carefully curated shopping edits that showcase fashion’s minimal and maximalist extremes.
Also starring in our December issue is HH Sheikha Lateefa bint Maktoum, one of the region’s most renowned art patrons, who shares details of her one-of-kind collaboration with Italian brand Loro Piana. Also included is Her Imperial Majesty Farah Pahlavi, who reminisces on the art collection she established to nurture emerging creatives in Iran, as she celebrates her 80th birthday, while the always-iconic Karl Lagerfeld discusses his collection of contemporary marble rock furniture, crafted with famed Lebanese architect Aline Asmar D’Amman.
