Gigi Hadid Reveals What It’s Like Working With Younger Sister Bella

The fashion world can be a ruthless industry, but two stars you won’t find at each others’ throats are Gigi and Bella Hadid. The sisters, who have both carved incredibly successful careers as world-renowned supermodels, have revealed that their similar choice of work will never affect their friendship. Interviewed by tennis ace and friend Serena Williams for V Magazine, elder sister Gigi opened up about their family dynamic, adding that there is no competitiveness between the two – on that catwalk, that is.

“I would say that out of everything, Bella and I are the least competitive about our careers. We are more competitive about holiday cooking,” the 23-year-old said. “It’s very rare to have what Bella and I have in fashion, what you and Venus have in tennis. I feel very lucky to be able to have a piece of home in my work environment. We are each other’s biggest fans. It has been a huge joy of my life to watch my little sister flourish, and to help when I can.” Adding that she “loves” that 21-year-old Bella works in the same field, Gigi shared the advice she first gave her sister when she started out in the modeling world.

“I personally really loved the challenge of learning a lot of the fashion ropes on my own when I started working in New York, so I didn’t want to take that experience away from Bella when she started,” the Tommy Hilfiger collaborator shared. “I was always there whenever she had a question about a specific client or situation, but I tried not to be too protective, which comes naturally to me with her. We’re always FaceTiming to keep each other company on work trips.”

The Vogue Arabia cover girls’ close relationship has been fostered from an early age, with mother Yolanda Hadid revealing earlier this year that she raised them to support one another. “I taught them at a very early age that it’s not about competing with anybody—it’s about becoming your personal best,” the former model told W Magazine. “Elbowing other women—well, there’s just already enough space for everyone to shine. And in Gigi and Bella’s case, they’re so different, especially with their looks.”
