She’s the legendary supermodel that has graced catwalks around the world for decades, but Naomi Campbell’s skills go beyond the runway. The British icon, who is the cover star of the November issue of Vogue Arabia, is still as in-demand as she was when she rocketed into the industry aged 15. As one of the original “supers”, she’s helped write fashion history with everything from her inimitable walk to that down-the-camera stare. However the Streatham-born icon also has quite the skill for a snappy comeback, something we’re paying tribute to today. Here, we round up some of Campbell’s most quick-witted moments to celebrate her Vogue Arabia cover.

When she found out she was running late

“What time was I meant to be at work, by the way?” she asks in a video diary filmed for Vogue UK earlier this year. “10.30am? Oh that’s nice,” she said… at 12pm.

When she took on Nicole Trunfio

Many of Campbell’s most hysterical moments come from her work in modeling competition TV show The Face. During an appearance on the Australian version, the star told Trunfio during a heated debate not to “compare yourself to me ever”, after the Merredin-born model mentioned designers they’d both walked for. “You are not on my level, and you never will be on my level,” Campbell said in an epic retort.

When she couldn’t stop laughing

While acting as a judge on The Face UK, Campbell could barely keep it together at one contestant’s “diabolical” walk. She even needed to call for a tissue and a mirror to wipe the tears of mirth from her face.

When she “couldn’t let it go, not with that lipstick”

In the US version of The Face, the queen of comebacks used Coco Rocha’s vibrant purple makeup to end an argument, telling the Canadian model to “check your lipstick before you come and talk to me”.

We would never laugh at the incident itself, but the fact that the fall left Campbell in fits of giggles only made us adore her all the more.

Her feedback to her team on The Face UK

“You made Team Naomi look like the Three Degrees,” Campbell told her girls after a disappointing challenge.
