In May, supermodel Miranda Kerr tied the knot with Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel in an intimate ceremony surrounded by fewer than 50 guests. Details about the wedding have been kept mum until now. Vogue US revealed that the former Victoria’s Secret model wore a Christian Dior haute couture wedding gown designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. “I think it’s every girl’s dream to have Dior design her wedding dress. I thought, if she’s up for it, I’m up for it,” Kerr said, referring to the artistic director of the luxury French fashion house.
The look was inspired by Grace Kelly’s iconic wedding dress for her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956, which was designed by Helen Rose. “She wanted something like a fairy tale,” explained Chiuri, “and she gave me this idea to make a dress that was emotional and simple at the same time.”
The 34-year-old model met with Dior’s first-ever female artistic director after Spiegel proposed to her in July 2016, and sketches shortly followed. The result? A fairy tale satin gown adorned with lily of the valley appliqués and complete with long sleeves and a high neckline. “A dress that fully covers you creates a sense of purity and mystery,” Kerr muses.
Kerr and Spiegel started their day with a session of yoga together to calm their nerves ahead of their big day. Before slipping into Dior Haute Couture, the model cooked her specialty slow-roasted chicken scented with turmeric and lemon (Spiegel’s favorite dish) for her husband-to-be. A social media ban ensured the nuptials were kept private and intimate. Kerr walked down the aisle to Arvo Pärt’s “Spiegel im Spiegel.”
Her six-year-old son with Orlando Bloom, Flynn, played ring bearer, and wore a navy blue three-piece Dior suit, naturally, and a lily-of-the-valley boutonnière. He joined his mother and stepfather for their first dance.
Kerr changed into another short and lacy gown – also designed by Chiuri – for the reception, which included karaokeing to Shania Twain. Mabrouk.
