Here’s How Celebrities Pulled Off the Trickiest Met Gala Theme Yet

The highly anticipated fashion gathering of the year, MET Gala 2019 was held at New York’s Metropolitan Museum on Monday, May 6. The star-studded evening saw the world’s biggest names in fashion, film, and music dressed in their best interpretations of this year’s theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion mainly based on Susan Sontag’s 1964 seminal essay “Notes on Camp”.

While the absence of MET Gala veterans Rihanna and Beyoncé was felt, the event’s host, American pop star Lady Gaga stole the show turning all heads to her as she flawlessly moved from one outfit to another in the span of fifteen minutes. Alternating between bright pink and black, all four of her outfits were designed by American fashion designer Brandon Maxwell. Former boyband member Harry Styles, American professional tennis player Serena Williams, and Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele co-chaired the event besides Gaga and Vogue US Editor in Chief Anna Wintour.

Among all the guests personally invited by Wintour was Gigi Hadid in a Michael Kors suit attached to a cape with feathers – a trend sported by many at the event. Sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Naomi Campbell, Winnie Harlow, Ciara, Priyanka Chopra, Taylor Hill, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Cardi B, and Wintour herself, showed up with feathers adorning parts of their outfits.

Headpieces also had their moment at the MET Gala; singer Janelle Monae made an appearance with four on the top of her head. Complementing the long train of Cardi B’s dress, the singer wore a red embellished headpiece, similar to the one seen on Gigi Hadid. Katie Perry also completed her chandelier-shaped outfit by topping it off with a chandelier for a headpiece.
