Madison Avenue, New York: Designer Roland Mouret unveils his new Une Chambre en Ville and his debut fragrance titled ‘Une Amourette’. The upper two levels of his retail townhouse are for private clients that can consult with the designer in the privacy of his own home; a move that the designer identifies as being in-line with his brand DNA and personal approach to business.

But that’s not all Mouret shared with the world in the Big Apple on Wednesday. Rumours are rife that Mouret is set to be the designer behind Meghan Markle‘s wedding gown in the Royal nuptials to Prince Harry, taking place on May 19th at Windsor Castle after he artfully dodged a journalist’s question about the subject. A friend of Markle’s, Mouret has not confirmed or denied the pondering questioning coming from the typical Royal wedding dress guessing game (we have been here many times before, after all!). In the fashion world, pros have added Stewart Parvin, Victoria Beckham (who has allegedly shared that she wants to design the gown), Alexander McQueen, and Erdem to the list of talent that could be lined up for, arguably, the biggest wedding commission of the year. And now Roland Mouret has joined the list of potential wedding dress designers for the Markle commission.

In an interview with WWD, Mouret was directly asked if he was designing Markle’s wedding dress, to which the designer stumbled upon the following response: “Mmmmm, I don’t want to say. No comment. It’s…there is no comment on that. She’s a friend. And that’s…I can’t say.”

Mouret is no stranger to big ticket commissions, having dressed a bevy of Hollywood’s leading ladies including Cate Blanchett, Scarlett Johannson, Jennifer Lopez, and Jessica Alba, to name but a few. Regarded for his form-fitting, silhouette-hugging dresses, and famed for the inimitable Galaxy dress beloved of A-listers, if he does indeed design Markle’s gown, one can expect scrupulous tailoring with a feminine edge.

As one muses upon the absence of a definitive response here from Mouret, team Vogue Arabia looks to the Middle Eastern bridal wear design talent that are primed for making gowns fit for a princess here. Only the big day will truly reveal the chosen fashion maison for sure.
