Meghan Markle, over the years, has challenged quite a few royal dressing rules. And since the Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry stepped back from their roles as senior members of the British royal family, the former has found herself experimenting even more with her sartorial picks. Back in November 2021, the Duchess dazzled in a strappy scarlet Carolina Herrera number, and has also favored smart pantsuits on more than one occasion—the most recent being that slouchy Loro Piana set in a deep shade of plum.
This weekend, Markle took over our social media feeds once more in a noteworthy look. Seen attending the 2022 NAACP Image Awards with husband Prince Harry, the Duchess opted for a bold blue one-shoulder gown, which came with aquamarine paneling along its edges for a summery seaside spin. The asymmetrical, body-skimming gown also featured a thigh-high slit and multi-hued train that added to its playful look. To complete her look, Markle opted for beautifully sculpted side-swept waves, a soft bronzed-out beauty look, and for accessories, Alexis Bittar earrings, and Aquazzura heels. Both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry spotlighted Black designers with their outfits
What makes Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wardrobe choices so significant this time around was the fact that the royal couple spotlighted Black designers with their picks. While Markle’s blue gown was designed by Christopher John Rogers, Prince Harry wore a classic black suit by Ozwald Boateng. The duo graciously accepted the the President’s Award—an honor given to those who have shown a dedication to public service—in the presence of Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland.
If you have a special evening coming up, and would like to try something different, a vibrant one-shoulder gown like Meghan Markle’s may be just the ticket. A piece like this promises to stand out in a sea of all-black ensembles, and can easily be re-worn come summer.
