Meghan Markle showcased some of the best of her on-duty style via a slew of meaningful outfits while on a trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry last week. Check out all the looks below.
Day 1
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry kicked off their trip to Nigeria in Abuja on May 10, where for her first outfit, the Duchess of Sussex looked to muted tones. Pictures of the mother-of-two from Lightway Academy saw her all smiles in a sleeveless earthy brown maxi dress by Californian brand Heidi Merrick. Also meaningful were Meghan’s accessories, as she sported a gold collar necklace much like the one late Princess Diana wore on her own visit to Nigeria in 1990.
Later in the day, Meghan offered her take on power dressing via a white suit with flared trousers. Together with Prince Harry, who was dressed in a teal green suit, the couple paid homage to Nigeria through the colors of its flag.
Day 2
Meghan stuck to neutrals for the second day of their trip, and wore a white strapless column dress by St. Agni for an event at the Defense Headquarters Officers Mess for military families. She paired it with yet another sentimental piece of jewelry in the form of a cross necklace, which reportedly belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales, and was a recent gift to the Duchess by Prince Harry.
A different occasion on the same day saw Meghan swap out the muted colors for one of the boldest looks in her trip’s wardrobe. To speak at the Women in Leadership event, Meghan gave a sartorial nod to the host country by wearing a strappy red dress with a ruffled hem by Nigerian brand Orire. The panel discussion is also where Meghan admitted to rethinking her style in the sense that she needed to wear more color. “It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived, and I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more color, so I can fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion!” she said.
Day 3
On May 12, Meghan arrived in Lagos making good on her promise of wearing more color while staying true to her personal style. She opted for a white Carolina Herrera button-up tucked into a striped blue maxi skirt, which was gifted to her in Abuja earlier in their trip.
One of the most talked-about outfits during Meghan’s visit to Nigeria was this yellow dress which the Duchess wore to a reception at the State Governor House. The sleeveless maxi dress was also by Carolina Herrera and one that Meghan had previously worn while she was pregnant with her firstborn Prince Harry. The Duchess also repeated the dress on her son’s first birthday in 2020.
For their final stop on the trip, Meghan and Prince Harry attended the Nigeria Unconquered game at the Lagos Polo Club. Meghan’s last day out under the sun in Nigeria saw her in a printed halter-neck dress by Johanna Ortiz, which she paired with red beaded earrings and Heidi Merrick sunglasses.
