There’s no denying we’re in a tech-driven society. Not a day goes by when we’re not staring at our phones, emails, and social platforms, checking in and checking out with myriad devices. It’s that world that Kuwaiti accessories label Marzook has explored in its just-unveiled Spring 2019 collection; a minimal, modern affair that evokes a 21st-century feel with its geometric shapes, futuristic forms, and contemporary materials.

“The collection is inspired by technology and its impact on humanity,” the label’s founders, siblings Fahad and Shouq Al Marzouq, tell Vogue.me. “The new shapes and styles are meant to evoke the theme of escapism.” From gold-hued, negative-space shoulder bags to embellished Perspex styles, the collection certainly provides an escape from your run-of-the-mill leather carry-all. For the new season, the label’s signature orb-shaped clutches are also reimagined with clear plastic and crystal embellishments, as well as variations on the Swarovski-crystal encrusted design, a bag toted by everyone from Rita Ora to Kylie Jenner. Next, the brand would love to see its designs on “an iconic Middle Eastern woman” such as Queen Rania, Hend Sabri, Yosra El Lozy, and Nelly Karim.

One star who has been snapped with a Marzook design in recent weeks is Sofia Richie, with the brand and the model teaming up on a capsule collection. Crafted in vivid green, pink, and highlighter-yellow, the Marzook x Sofia Richie pieces tie a trademark spherical silhouette with a head-turning palette for a statement finish. The brand and Richie, the daughter of musical legend Lionel Richie, were introduced by mutual friends, and the idea to collaborate quickly took form. “Sofia’s style compliments Marzook’s aesthetic,” Shouq Al Marzouq reveals. “Her style is very fun and expressive. When we think of the Marzook girl, she fits the profile perfectly.” Working with Richie was idyllic, the design duo add, as the model trusted “our vision”. “She loved the idea of taking the brand’s season-less bestseller and infusing it with this season’s hottest shades.”

So, what does the future hold for the label, beloved by the region’s It-girls? Whatever upcoming collections feature, they’re likely to be as outside-the-box as their predecessors. “We always are thinking about what our client wants and what will set her a part from everyone else,” says Shouq. And could another venture into clothing ensue, after Marzook dropped its first Ready-to-Wear line this Ramadan? Quite possibly. “”Our clients are asking us to create another exclusive RTW capsule collection that debuts around Ramadan,” adds Fahad. “They loved it so much.”
