Just days before hosting its larger-than-life 45th anniversary show in Riyadh on November 13, Elie Saab has announced Marina Raphael as its new artistic and design director for handbags.
The Greek-Austrian designer, whose pieces have been worn and loved by the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba and Megan Fox to name a few, is well known for her iconic silhouettes (who doesn’t recognize the Riviera bags?) and sparkling renditions. At Elie Saab, Raphael is all set to strengthen the identity of Lebanese fashion house’s handbag collections and help expand its reach to a larger fashion audience. As a sixth generation member of the Swarovski family, Marina Raphael is no stranger to the art of creating perfection. Her partnership with Elie Saab will result in four ready-to-wear collections and two haute couture collections — meaning that loyalists of both brands have much to look forward to in the coming months! Raphael’s first collection under this collaboration will be showcased in January 2025 at the Elie Saab haute couture show in Paris.
Speaking about the big development, the 26-year-old designer shared, “Working with Mr Elie Saab, who has played an integral part of cultivating my passion for exceptional quality and craftsmanship, is a truly humbling experience. He has been a revolutionary in the world of couture and fashion, and his unparalleled creativity and attention to detail have always left me in awe.” As for the Lebanese powerhouse that has won the hearts of the fashion community not just in the region, but around the world, the feeling is mutual. “We are excited to pursue the handbag category with Marina, whose impressive track record and proven ability to translate the brand’s vision will enhance our potential for success,” reveales Elie Saab Jr. “Her past achievements and dedication to excellence assure us that she is the perfect partner for this endeavor. Marina has consistently demonstrated her capability to innovate and drive results, aligning seamlessly with our brand’s goals and values.”
Over the years, the house of Elie Saab has dazzled the world time and time again with its regal ensembles, seen on some of the world’s most powerful and best dressed women — from Angelina Jolie and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, to Katy Perry, Rita Ora and Eva Longoria. Given its incredible legacy, Marina Raphael’s new role comes with as much excitement as it does expectations — a challenge she’s ready to rise to. Here’s wishing the dynamic new duo the best of luck together.
