Lupita Nyong’O Champions Emerging Saudi Designer at World Premiere of Us

Lupita Nyong’O arrived at the global premiere of her latest film, the Jordan Peele-directed Us, and in doing so, ultimately shut down Austin’s SXSW festival with her edgy look. For the occasion, the Oscar-winning actor wore a white, sculptural pantsuit from emerging Saudi womenswear label Honayda, spearheaded by Honayda Serafi. The power suit, plucked from the brand’s Spring 2019 collection, featured flared trousers, and a double-breasted tuxedo blazer with cut-out sides and layers of pleated tulle sprouting from the right shoulder.

Nyong’O and her stylist Michaela Erlanger always have a surprise up their sleeves, elevating the attention-grabbing ensemble with an equally head-turning beauty look that comprised a dramatic, sweep of red eyeshadow across the eyes and a crown of metal duckbill clips (inspired by Snoop Dogg).

The Black Panther star is the latest to champion a look from Serafi. Since launching her eponymous label (“Honayda” is the Arabic word for a sword’s sheath), the Parsons School of Design graduate has had her designs sported by the likes of rapper Eve at the 2019 Grammys and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, who wore one of her looks to the 2019 Academy Awards.
