Unmistakable for her bee-stung lips, gap teeth, and dimples, American model Lindsey Wixson announced yesterday that she will retire from fashion at 23 years old. Wixson revealed on her Instagram page to her 242 000 followers that a permanent injury – a torn ligament in her big toe, which prevents her from wearing heels without creating further damage – is the reason for her retirement. However, she also took the opportunity to announce a new endeavor. “I have an artistic side that wants to shine through. I feel that this disability has come to me with a purpose,” she wrote. The former model has launched Wixson Design, a new label for pottery, sculpting, carving, and interior design.

Lindsey Wixson is one of the most recognized faces in the business. Having studied fashion via issues of Vogue magazine (she would go on to be featured on more than a dozen Vogue covers), the Kansas-born beauty was rejected by IMG Models, who did not consider that her unique looks would translate well on the catwalk. The model, who walked for Atelier Versace seven times in a row, was plucked by Steven Meisel for her first editorial with Vogue Italia. For her runway debut in 2010, she opened the Prada show in Milan and closed Miu Miu in Paris. She went on to book shows and campaigns for Chanel, Fendi, Tom Ford, Jill Stuart, and many others. Her most recent and potentially last cover is the Vogue Portugal July 2017 issue.

In a 2014 interview with I-D magazine, which stated that the 1.77m blond, blue-eyed beauty had “the most famous pout in fashion,” she said that in five years she saw herself as “being happy.” It appears that she is well on her way.
