Here’s How Lily-Rose Depp Embraced Beachy Style at Chanel’s Miami Show

This past Friday, Chanel hosted a Miami showing of its resort 2023 collection, which was first shown back in May in Monte Carlo. The sunny setting was an appropriate backdrop, given the collection was both colorful and vacation-ready. Stars like Marion Cotillard, Pharrell Williams, and Lily-Rose Depp flew into town to take in some sunshine and see the new upbeat pieces. “I’ve been to Miami once when I was little, but I’ve never been as an adult, so it feels really exciting to discover and explore the city with my Chanel family,” Depp told Vogue shortly before the show. “It feels like a very fitting place to show such a bright, sunny, and joyful collection.”

Depp is no stranger to attending the French label’s theatrical presentations, which are often hosted in Paris’s Grand Palais. She says she simply couldn’t miss the Miami showing—a fresh new location for the label. “I love their ability to really transport you [with their sets,]” says Depp. “No matter where they’re taking you, they’re really able to create a whole world around the collection, and a context for the clothes to really shine and thrive in. They do it like nobody else.”

The actor and model, of course, needed the perfect front-row look for the affair. Styled by Leila Smara, she wore a two-piece Chanel tweed set that matched the easy-breezy feel of the new collection. “We have worked together for a really long time, so she just knows my tastes so well,” says Depp, who wanted to dress to theme. “As soon as I saw this little blue matching set, I was obsessed—I love a little matching set. The blue felt very reminiscent of a beach and the ocean, which we watched the show by. I also love a belly belt.”

While the resort offering was all about summer, you can expect Depp to be rocking her favorite label this winter, too. “Chanel always keeps me warm in the winter,” she says. “I love a big, warm scarf, and they have the best gloves and hats; I’ve spent the whole year in L.A. not wearing a ton of sweaters, so I’m really excited to wear some cozier Chanel knits.” While she’s gearing up for the holidays, her next project—starring in The Weeknd’s The Idol—will debut sometime next year. What can we expect? “Expect the unexpected,” Depp says with a laugh. “I’m super proud of it. I couldn’t be more thrilled about what we made. [Director] Sam [Levinson] and Abel [The Weeknd] are both incredible visionaries, and I’m really excited for everyone to see it. It’s a beautiful, wild ride.”
