Dubai-based clutch brand L’Afshar introduces a Fall 2017 collection with a twist: chokers are entering the mix. Among a mostly monochromatic collection of acrylic, Lucite, and marble box clutches (some featuring golden handles), 18kt-gold plated chokers with circle pendants made with the likes of pink quartz, lapis lazuli, and emerald marble are seamlessly introduced.
Since the diminutive designer launched her brand in 2014, Lilian Afshar has revealed two collections a year that continuously evolve her burgeoning label, particularly via the attention-to-detail finishings such as the handles and closures. And yet, she maintains her definitive box shape and textured case – signatures that are unmistakably “L’Afshar.”
Each season, during Fashion Week, I sit with Afshar in a beautiful Paris apartment, transformed into an intimate showspace shared with fashion contemporaries Faiza Bouguessa and Monica Sordo to view her Made in the UAE pieces, artfully showcased among fashion books and paintings like the objets d’art that they are. This March, she took me through a Fall 2017 collection inspired by an intergalactic cosmos. Black marble and translucent crushed ice clutches make for chic talking pieces that will not overpower an outfit – only accent it. The chokers felt cool and comfortable at first touch and instantly warmed to my skin. For a woman who wishes to carry her essentials with contemporary class and wear statement jewelry that feels both relevant to today and beyond trends.
