Lady Gaga Wears Emirati Label and Addresses That Oscars Performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Shortly after accepting an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 2019 Oscars ceremony, Lady Gaga appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week to discuss her win and address her performance with A Star is Born co-star Bradley Cooper, you know, the one that had everyone talking.

For the occasion, the singer-turned-actress wore a black, sheer dress from London-based Emirati brand Khyeli’s Spring 2019 collection. The strappy, tulle gown featured thousands of sequins, beads, and crystal embellishments throughout and took over 200 hours to embroider by hand. It also features a built-in bodysuit corset with cups.

The slinky dress was a glamorous departure from the voluminous and extravagant creations that the 29-year-old budding Emirati fashion designer is known for. A trained architect, his designs have been worn by the likes of Lili Reinhart and Candice Swanepoel. As for who he wishes to see in his designs next? “Nadine Labaki, Angelina Jolie, and Oprah Winfrey,” he previously admit to Vogue Arabia. “These women know what good construction is, what good fabric is, and they like to present themselves in the best way possible. They are the ladies I aspire for my couture to serve.”

During the sit-down, Kimmel was quick to bring up the internet’s fixation on the idea of a real-life romance between the singer and her co-star, following the pair’s performance of ‘Shallow’, which won the Academy Award for best original song. “First of all, social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the Internet. And what it has done to pop culture is abysmal,” Lady Gaga said on the talk show. “People saw love, and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see.”
