Lady Gaga’s Elizabethan Alexander McQueen Gown Has to Be Seen to Be Believed

As Lady Gaga takes A Star is Born around the world, she’s keeping the fashion stakes high. After dazzling in Givenchy couture in Los Angeles and breaking out in feathery couture at the Venice Film Festival, Gaga decided to go in a different direction for the movie’s London premiere. Where previously she’d experimented with old Hollywood glamour, this time, Gaga took her historical references back even further, channeling the fearless beauty of the Elizabethan era and pulling out an archival look from Alexander McQueen.

The Sarah Burton-designed Fall 2013 gown delivered the drama with layers of intricate beading, lace, and pleating. The corseted bodice covered in pearls and gold accents was a showstopper, but the decorative ruff and billowing sleeves may have been the most interesting elements. Though these frills are rarely seen outside of the Renaissance fair, they’re exactly the kind of eccentric fashion we count on Gaga to provide.
