Kylie Jenner has just championed another Arab designer. The American businesswoman recently wore custom-made pumps by Lebanese designer Andrea Wazen when she stepped out for the 72nd Annual Parsons’s Benefit in New York City on June 15. Named after the 23-year-old, the Kylie pumps feature a 10.5cm heel, PVC translucent upper, and pointed-sole, with a gleaming olive green leather at the heel complementing Jenner’s forest green dress. The high heels will be available to the public from August 2021, exclusively on Andrea Wazen’s official website, in a variety of colors.
The Beirut-based women’s shoe designer tells Vogue Arabia that she wanted to create a pair of shoes that would be perfect for Jenner. “I know that she loves to wear clear shoes and her stylists always find difficulty finding that perfect clear pump with an elegant curve that simply elongates the legs and accentuates her look,” she says.
Wazen launched her brand in 2013 with a boutique in Beirut, standing as a testament to the Lebanese city’s irrepressible spirit when she lost her atelier in the August 4 Beirut blast last year. Following her e-commerce debut in December 2017, Andrea has garnered a celebrity following with the likes of Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lopez and more.
Wazen tells Vogue Arabia that the Kylie PVC pump is simple yet sophisticated. “It is always important for me that the women that wear my shoes feel confident and powerful in them. I loved the final outcome and I am really looking forward to designing more custom-made pairs for her,” the designer shares.
Qatar’s non-profit organization Fashion Trust Arabia recognized the London-born entrepreneur with an Accessories Designer of the Year award last year. Wazen was further shortlisted in the list of top 10 women entrepreneurs by Forbes Middle East. In December 2020, the designer also bagged leading shoe magazine Footwear News‘s prestigious Emerging Talents Award.
