Lockdown measures across the globe may be lifting slowly but home has been at the center of our everyday existence for the past few months – and designers have been tasked with finding new ways to generate inspiration and creative ideas for upcoming collections.

With her frothy, ultra-feminine creations, Kuwait-based designer Bazza Alzouman has developed an appealing signature (who wouldn’t want to escape into dreamlike layers of tulle at a time like this?), one that has garnered international recognition with stockists that include Moda Operandi – still one of the only places in the world where fashion designers can sell their most creative work, including one-of-a-kind pieces, to a global audience. Here, the designer explains how she has navigated the pandemic and found peace with whatever the future may hold…
The future of fashion
“I’ve been trying to stay creative and really take this opportunity to explore new things and take chances. The world is changing and the fashion industry has no choice but to change with it, so I’m always thinking: ‘what can I do differently and do better?’”
Inner peace
“Mindfulness and mediation has been a huge part of my Covid-19 journey. I think more than anything this experience has really taught me presence and awareness; it’s a skill that I’ve been able to develop further throughout this time and it has really helped to improve my quality of life.”
Holiday dreaming
“One of the ways I am adjusting and staying creative is with a healthy dose of escapism. I turn to travel photos and nature a lot for inspiration; they’re a mood enhancer and how I plan where I want to go when all this is over. Italy in particular has been a source of beauty and positivity during this time.”
Family first
“Being at home with my two daughters has been a positive side to all of this. I have been able to really engage and spend quality time with them and make memories without the normal rushed pace of life.”
Back to nature
“I find it more important than ever to try my best to stay in touch with the outdoors and with nature, while respecting social distancing. Whether that means taking a walk in my parent’s garden, or spending time at the beach – a change in scenery and going outside for fresh air always give me a sense of normalcy and keeps me grateful.”
