From micro-bags to the pouch, fashion weeks are notorious for popularising unseemly accessories and clothing. This season, designers have set their radars on latex, bringing it back in full force as one of fall/winter’s biggest trends. Spotted on the runways at Saint Laurent, Balmain and Balenciaga were models clad in high-shine, skin-tight latex pieces that came in bright hues of pink, red and purple, elevating the boldness of it all.
Unconvinced? Let Kim Kardashian West change your mind. While in Paris, the businesswoman and reality TV star observed the trend and wasted no time in going all out to embrace it with not just one, but three different latex looks. The KKW Beauty mogul went as far as to literally tie her look together with a matching latex hair tie holding her sleek ponytail. The straight-off-the-runway outfits had been plucked from designer and friend of the Kardashians Olivier Rousteing’s fall/winter 20-21 ready-to-wear collection for Balmain. Not one to shy away from bold fashion choices and trends either, Kourtney Kardashian joined her sister in Paris wearing a burgundy latex number from the same label.
With models channeling Catwoman on the runway to now, one of the major trend-setting celebrities sporting head-to-toe latex looks, it is safe to say that the material often associated with all things censored, is no longer bound to them.
