Kate Middleton has arrived at Wimbledon for her first outing of this year’s championships. The Princess of Wales is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), a keen tennis fan and an accomplished tennis player in her own right, making the two-week tournament an unmissable date in her summer diary.
Typically stylish, Kate mastered Wimbledon dressing in an outfit reminiscent of one worn by Princess Diana to Trooping the Colour in the 1980s. Kate was the picture of preppy perfection in a mint green blazer with exaggerated contrasting white lapels and buttons by A-list approved Balmain, which she paired with a pleated white midi skirt, white Mulberry bag and white Gianvito Rossi pumps. The vintage-inspired ensemble bears a striking similarity to the green Catherine Walker blazer dress worn by Princess Diana to Trooping the Colour in 1988.
The Princess of Wales typically attends Wimbledon on a number of days and is expected to continue the tradition this year. In 2022, she and Prince William delighted royal fans by bringing along their son Prince George. Kate has also previously attended with her sister Pippa Middleton and with her sister-in-law the Duchess of Sussex. Her Royal Highness’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, are also regular fixtures at SW19.
There is a bumper crop of British talent on show at SW19 this week. Katie Boulter’s fellow Tatler cover star Cameron Norrie (British men’s No. 1) took on Tomas Machac on Court One yesterday. Sir Andy Murray, who has known Kate Middleton for a number of years, is also scheduled to play his first round match.
It comes after the Princess of Wales appeared in a heartwarming new video to celebrate Wimbledon’s Ball Boys and Girls (BBGs), showcasing her tennis skills in a rally with none other than Roger Federer. In the film, Her Royal Highness is seen visiting the All England Club with Roger Federer to meet returning and prospective BBGs and hear about their experiences in training for the role. She also took part in a doubles rally with Roger Federer on No.3 Court before joining the BBGs on court to participate in a training session.
