Kate Bosworth attends the 2017 Met Gala, themed Rei Kawakubo: Comme des Garçons at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York, wearing a black organza gown paired with a bolero jacket featuring laser-cut petals and scalloped edges. The ensemble, designed by American fashion designer Tory Burch, comprised all the elements remeniscient of a classic Kawakubo masterpiece: exaggerated sleeves, extreme shapes and textures and, most notably, the ability to morph Bosworth into a fantastical work of art.

“We started thinking about Rei Kawakubo’s interest in the space between boundaries,” Burch says. “That resonated with us because we have always been about the ‘and,’ the mix. We played with clean lines and texture and focused on contrast for styles that are both relaxed and elegant, sexy, and refined.”

The fashion designer also dressed American actress Zoey Deutch. Burch personally asked Bosworth and Deutch – both of whom participated in the brand’s recent #EmbraceAmbition campaign – to be her guests for the ceremony. “Kate is chic and confident – a classic Hollywood beauty who always looks incredible in our collection,” Burch says. “She balances being a wife, stepmother, actor, and producer with impeccable style and grace. And Zoey has all-American style and a real sense of humor. She stands up for what she believes in, which I love.”
