WWD reported that the legendary couturier Karl Lagerfeld will unveil a clothing and sneaker collaboration with cult footwear brand Vans. And while this may seem like an offbeat venture for Lagerfeld (who photographed Vogue Arabia’s debut September cover featuring Bella Hadid) it’s important to note that his eponymous line was an early choice for fast-fashion giant H&M’s designer collaborations in 2004.
The recently announced collection is not with Chanel, but with Lagerfeld’s namesake label and is set to release globally on September 7, just in time for fashion month. However, those keen to get their hands on the capsule can head to the Bread & Butter trade show in Berlin, where it will be presented just days before the launch.
While images of the hotly anticipated collection have been kept under wraps, a quick Instagram search reveals that Vans’ laceless Sk8-Hi, the Old Skool, and the Classic Slip-Ons will be reimagined in leather and adorned with a quilted K. We’re betting that the shoes merging the classic checkerboard patterns with Karl’s iconic profile will be dominating the forthcoming street style snaps.
The clothing will also maintain a black and white color palette, including a two-tone raglan bomber, a T-shirt emblazoned with an image of Lagerfeld wearing a checkerboard tie, and a premium leather backpack punctuated with a quilted leather K motif. Pieces start at US $40 (AED/SAR 147) and go up to US $300 (AED/SAR 1,102).
Karl Lagerfeld x Vans follows the slew of luxury labels joining forces with streetwear brands. Earlier this year, we saw Louis Vuitton team up with Supreme, while Tommy Hilfiger unveiled plans for a collection with Vetements, and Off-White hinted at a potential collaboration with Champion.
