On Tuesday night, Etihad Airways celebrated its 15th birthday by unveiling a new scarf and tie collaboration with Diane Von Furstenberg during an elegant soirée held at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Press, bloggers, and fashion insiders mingled under the dome of the Jean Nouvel-designed museum, and nibbled on appetizers such as mini sliders and waffle tartes, while DJ Meg was on deck to provide the tunes. Among the VIP guests in attendance were supermodel Joan Smalls and the Lord of the Rings actress Liv Tyler. Smalls turned heads in a royal blue, Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress, which she accessorized with the Etihad x Diane Von Furstenberg scarf secured neatly as a headband, giving the well-heeled attendees a mini lesson on the different ways to style the accessory. Meanwhile, the daughter of rock legend Steven Tyler of Aerosmith chose a graphic, red dress from the New York-based label.
Smalls arrived in the UAE several days ago, and made most of her time, checking out everything from the capital’s Grand Mosque to the track of Yas Marina ahead of last night’s star-studded event. The Puerto Rican supermodel documented the night at the museum on her Instagram, sharing adorable clips of herself and Tyler at the event.
The Etihad and DVF fashion collaboration comprises a line-up of limited edition ties and scarves in yellow, white, and purple colorways. The graphic print featured on the accessories was directly inspired by the Yas Marina Circuit and Abu Dhabi’s Formula 1. Etihad’s cabin crew will wear the pieces as part of their uniform throughout the entire month of November to celebrate the airline’s 15-year anniversary and its 10-year partnership with the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. “I was thrilled to collaborate with Etihad Airways on this exciting project,” said Von Furstenberg, who couldn’t physically be at the event, via video projected on the museum’s walls. “I hope the cabin crew feels very proud to wear the scarves and ties. They reflect everything Etihad is about – elegance and style.”
