Jessica Kahawaty off-boarded her long-haul to address the United Nation General Assembly in NYC to then jet across to Shanghai and enter a seemingly different universe at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2017. A world where Fantasy Bras cost US $2 million, the red carpet is actually pink, and spray tan is not only encouraged, it’s expected. It’s that time of year again (where even the boldest of lingerie private collections can seem lacklustre in comparison) and Vogue.me’s special guest reporter is on location to share the latest from China.
“Backstage is super organised chaos!” Kahawaty reports back to Vogue Arabia, fresh from a preview and meet-up with the VS Angels. “The girls are really excited and being prepped. Hair in rollers and makeup almost done but full of smiles and full of really positive energy.”

The annual Victoria’s Secret show has made the careers of many models, and catapulted others to new stratospheres of fame. From Gisele Bündchen to Taylor Hill – these Vogue girls also march as an army of glitter-clad angels, walking the runway in the lingerie maison‘s latest collections. This year the winged line-up sees the likes of Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Jasmine Tookes, Lais Ribeiro, Romee Strijd, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell, and Taylor Hill. Vanessa Moody and Dasha Khlystun are two of a few new faces amongst the crowd of angels.

“I’m definitely excited to see the different segments in the show,” Kahawaty tells Vogue. “After meeting the girls and knowing a few of them, it’s nice to see if the outfit reflects their personality. This is one of the biggest show of the year!” As each angel preps for the big event, swathed in pink satin robes, Vogue Arabia’s guest reporter asked the vital beauty and style questions a girl-in-the-know still wants to ask. Kahawaty met Sara Sampaio, Lais Ribeiro (who is honored with the task of modelling the Champagne Nights Fantasy Bra), and Romee Strijd. “It was so nice to meet Lais who will be wearing the famed Fantasy bra,” adds Kahawaty. The special edition bra is handset with diamonds, yellow sapphires and blue topaz in 18-karat gold. Perhaps not the daily lingerie go-to.

With Harry Styles performing and the Victoria’s Secret Balmain collaboration being unveiled, this year is already proving to be a note-worthy one. Even if you choose to sit on the sidelines from witnessing the main show, the pre-show riot of fun has already begun.
