Jennifer Lopez, Queen of OTT Style, Tries Out Minimalism

When it comes to her fashion choices, Jennifer Lopez goes for bold. Who could forget her plunging Versace dress from the Grammys, or more recently, her fascinator hat at the Met Gala? When the star gets dressed, she aims to turn heads. But it seems even J.Lo isn’t immune to the summer’s persisting minimalism movement. This weekend in L.A., Lopez stepped out in a pared-back ensemble that’s much quieter than her signature style.

Thanks to labels such as Khaite, The Row, and Gabriela Hearst, a hushed sensibility has been trending this spring and summer season—all neutral color ways and subtle tailoring—and that polished vibe has clearly had an effect on Lopez. The star stepped out wearing a classic white tank and paired it with black wide-leg dress pants and a cropped cardigan. Her Chanel loafers and puffy Coach bag featured relatively discreet logos as well—a far cry from the bold designer monogrammed looks she’s worn in the past. The whole look was effortless and elegant in a way that’s not trying to be noticed. It’s a dramatic switch-up from, say, the chunky Timberlands and huge aviators that Lopez usually wears.

If anything, take Lopez’s new styling approach as a sign to experiment with a new look this season. Clearly, switching up her wardrobe paid off for Lopez. If you’re a minimalist lover, maybe try maximalist-dressing for a week. Venture outside that comfort zone!
