It may be difficult to recall the Grammy-award winners from 2002, but the memory of Jennifer Lopez’s iconic Versace dress is still very vivid. Fashion enthusiasts were ecstatic when the superstar closed the Italian fashion house’s spring/summer 2020 show, in a reimagined version of the tropical green floral gown during Milan Fashion Week. Fortunately for us, the iconic dress is officially up for sale for a limited time of ten days.
The gown that graced Versace’s runway featured the same embellishments, colors and intricate details, but created with more fabric. In 2002, when J Lo walked the red carpet in her original green dress, Google was flooded with searches for the Jenny From The Block singer’s outfit details. The numbers peaked incredibly high, which led the Google founders, Sergey Brin, and Larry Page, along with CEO Eric Schmidt, to invent Google’s image search function. A testament to the immeasurable impact of the fashion industry, Google was forever changed after 2002.
“I really didn’t think about it. I didn’t think it was all that risqué, to be honest. The dress was just provocative enough to make people interested,” Lopez tells Vogue US.
When Lopez flew down to Milan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the silk maxi dress, no-one expected the item to be up for grabs. However, there’s always a first time for everything. The Italian fashion house is putting the bohemian chiffon gown on sale at Moda Operandi for a staggering USD9,325.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is only available for ten days, starting today. The countdown is on as for the next nine days, you have the chance to buy, wear, own, and break the internet – just like J Lo. The package will be shipped from the store on May 5, 2020.
