brought the curtain down on Paris Fashion Week with a show in the corridors of the Louvre Museum. Attended by Oscar-winner Julianne Moore, the event opened with a parade of regal coats in gold and silver threads, high collars, and opulent floral embroideries. Following the show, Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s creative director, spoke to Vogue Arabia editor-in-chief, Manuel Arnaut. “Sometimes we think that this is more costume or theater, and I think that it is interesting to put it into today’s wardrobe,”Ghesquière said of the luxurious coats he created.
Ghesquière told Arnaut that he had visited the Metropolitan Costume Institute in New York to delve into its archive of 18th century French and English clothing for inspiration. “We saw the most beautiful frocks and I thought, this is so interesting to mix them with sport clothes, with sneakers, to create that look,” Ghesquière said. The cinephile designer added that he referenced the 1994 film Interview with a Vampire, starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, when making the outfits, which contributed to the show’s fantastical feel.
As for the sneaker pairing, Ghesquière remarked that although “it is not incredibly new to put them on the catwalk, it is new to mix them with something very flamboyant…I love women in high heels, I love women in sneakers, I’m extreme!”
