From Nicki Minaj’s Barbie necklace to the now viral peacock ring, international jewelry brand AM is paving the way for statement jewelry, one incredible creation at a time.
Back in 2022, world-renowned rapper Nicki Minaj topped trending charts when she was seen sporting a bejeweled Barbie necklace on Instagram. And it wasn’t long before jewelry enthusiasts were able to discover the name behind the sparkler: Ashna Mehta, a young Indian woman who has emerged as one of the most exciting names of her generation in the realm of fine jewels.
Ashna and her sister Aria Mehta have grown up surrounded by precious materials, namely diamonds. So it comes as no surprise that the two have chosen to walk the same path as prior generations. But while others before them — take for instance, their mother Payal Mehta — have honed their jewelry-making skills to create timeless pieces that celebrate quiet luxury, the Mehta sisters are using their global eye and taste for all things Gen Z-approved to have fun with fine jewelry. This isn’t a generation that shies away from OTT sparkle and avant-garde accessories. On the contrary, ‘more is more’ seems to be the mantra for the Mehtas, who love adding a cheeky spin to their creations. Cases in point: the coveted peacock ring, which Ashna herself was seen wearing at Rosemin Madhavji’s grand wedding in Paris in September 2023, and the inaugural collection by Ashna Mehta, a playful line comprising of mini basketball hoop earrings, tennis racket pendants, and more.
Despite the buzz around them, the siblings consider their journey in the business of jewelry as one that’s just begun. While Ashna looks forward to making an impact with more innovative creations using nothing but the finest, rarest gems in the world, Aria, an LCF graduate, aims to continue using her technical prowess and understanding of Procreate and CAD to ensure every AM creation exceeds expectations.
Now expanding their reach to the Middle East, the Mehta sisters launched their first high jewelry collection for friends and family in Dubai. Models walked for guests sporting radiant AM pieces styled with looks by couture designer Yara Shoemaker, marking a new era for fine jewelry.
