Once upon a time, denim would not be seen on the red carpet at one of fashion’s most exclusive events. But here we sit at the apex of a new age, where millennial models and Vogue cover stars are rewriting the fashion rule book. Last night, Vogue Arabia’s April cover star, Imaan Hammam, busted another style myth: yes, you can wear overalls to a high society function. And denim ones no less.

The Moroccan-Dutch model – who has walked for Balmain, Fendi, and Moschino, to name but a few of her regular runway bookings – took her turn on this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards red carpet (well, purple, to be precise) in an embroidered jumpsuit by Adam Selman that featured an asymmetric segment of tulle. Deftly styled with a topknot and Christian Louboutin accessories, the model made her favorite off-duty staple work as eveningwear.

You don’t need to be fashion’s Sherlock Holmes to note that her Instagram is punctuated with denim overalls and dungarees.

Her go-to outfit to slip on during Fashion Week is simply a relaxed pair of blue denim all-in-ones and luxe trainers, so her fashion critics needn’t be nonplussed that the style renegade elevated her trusty wardrobe staple for after-hours. As the theme of last night’s red carpet emerged as one of individuality and relaxed glamour, Hammam struck the right chord. Here, Vogue shops some of the latest denim one-piece threads to add to your wardrobe when city-hopping in cooler climates or for when you air con is permanently set to arctic mode.
