Huda Kattan Named as One of America’s Richest Self-Made Women

Her beauty empire has grown exponentially since it launched in 2013, and Huda Kattan‘s hard work has certainly been recognized. In fact, the Dubai-based founder of Huda Beauty ranked among Forbes Magazine‘s list of America’s richest self-made women this week, joining esteemed peers such as Kylie Jenner (No 27), Oprah Winfrey (No 6), and Sheryl Sandberg (No 12).

The entrepreneur, who launched her eponymous company after struggling to find suitable false eyelashes, came in at No 37 on the 60-woman-strong list, coming in one place behind pop superstar Madonna. Kattan, who teamed up with Facebook Watch to launch a new web series last month, has an estimated net worth of US$550 million, according to Forbes, which puts her ahead of stars such as Beyoncé (US$355 million), Kim Kardashian West (US$350 million), and Taylor Swift (US$320 million). The article also revealed that social media star Kylie Jenner is on track to become the youngest self-made billionaire, male or female, in history.

Iraqi-American Kattan, who has 26 million Instagram followers, is a Hollywood-trained makeup artist, who launched her blog in 2010 before founding Huda Beauty. Today, her company sells more than 140 products, which bring in at least US$200 million in annual sales, Forbes reports. The June debut of her web series, Huda Boss,  meant the mom-of-one added the title executive producer to her CV this year, with the show shining a light on the “crazy family dynamic” behind her business.

“We have been approached by a few different networks over the last five or six years to do a reality series, but we decided to partner with Facebook Watch earlier this year, and started filming in March,” Kattan revealed to Vogue.me. “Huda Boss has been a super collaborative project; we’ve been really involved at every level — both Mona and I are executive producers on the show — and we are so excited to introduce a show that’s so socially integrated.”
