After 14 hugely popular collaborations, H&M’s latest designer partnership – with irreverent Italian brand Moschino – launches November 8.

H&M‘s designer collaborations are almost as much a part of the fashion calendar as the twice-yearly catwalk schedule. For the past 14 years, the Swedish retailer has worked with high-end fashion houses to reimagine their designs for the high street, starting with Karl Lagerfeld in 2004. He was the first designer to work with the fast-fashion chain, setting a precedent as the collection sold out in a matter of minutes. Since then, H&M has had successful collaborations with Stella McCartney, Balmain, Erdem, and now Moschino.

Earlier this year, H&M unveiled that it had teamed up with the Italian fashion house and its creative director, Jeremy Scott, to launch men’s and womenswear capsule collections. “We are so excited to be collaborating with Moschino as our next H&M designer,” says H&M’s creative advisor, Ann-Sofie Johansson. “The boldness, the fun, and the glamour of Moschino feel so right.”

Echoing her enthusiasm, Scott adds, “I’m the people’s designer and the wonderful thing about this collaboration is the ability to take my voice and to translate it to H&M’s price point, and to have it be accessible to so many more people around the world, without having to dial down the designs.”

Since taking the helm at Moschino in 2013, the Kansas City native has enchanted the fashion world with Barbie, McDonald’s, and Looney Tunes-inspired pieces, with pop icons Madonna and Katy Perry wearing his outlandish designs. The limited-edition collaboration, called Moschino [tv] H&M, will deliver the same high-octane and vivacious designs fans of Moschino have come to know and love, with the brand’s signature cartoon prints and bold colors, including designs from the label’s founder, Franco Moschino.

“If you want a full-on fashion moment, there’s the faux fur coat that’s been punctured by gold chains; if you want pop culture, there’s the Disney collaboration. If you want glamour, there’s the black leather dress. If you just want a taste of Moschino, there’s all the unbelievable accessories,” says Scott about the collection’s wide variety.

From logos, humor, pop culture and glamour, slashed silhouettes and subverted shapes, every piece reveals the designer’s love for the Moschino heritage, as well as the fierce energy he has brought to the brand. “I always try to speak from the heart when I design, and get the purest essence of me, because I know those are the clothes that are going to resonate with the fans.”

Think parka dresses covered in silver sequins, fuchsia pink Minnie Mouse knitted sweater dresses, cropped red padded jackets, over-the- knee black boots, and Moschino’s much-loved leather jacket bag exclusively reinvented into miniature. It is a sensational capsule collection to excite every aesthetic taste bud.

As a maximalist, Scott shows fearlessness in his designs and admits that he gets his inspiration from everything and everywhere – yet he always instantly knows what is right for a collection. “What I love about fashion is how you can bring all these inspirations together to communicate beyond a language,” he says. “I love to take iconography and change it, subvert it, and play with it, and then send it out to the world.”
