Just days after making her Vogue Arabia debut as our May digital cover star, the actor had her shining moment in the spotlight during the world premiere of her much-awaited Disney film, The Little Mermaid, in Los Angeles. While debates about Bailey being the appropriate choice to play Ariel (given her race) have sadly not died down yet, fans across the globe continue to applaud the 23-year-old, who looks spectacular as the underwater princess in the film’s trailers.

The only look that could top Bailey’s mermaid look, however, is the gorgeous gown the American actor-songwriter wore on the blue carpet last evening. Keeping very much with the theme of the movie, a glowing Halle Bailey stepped out for the cameras in a strapless body-hugging gown that looked like it was fashioned using… water? Take a closer look below.

A closer look at Halle Bailey’s watery Valdrin Sahiti gown

Crafted using a metallic fabric that mimicked the slippery, glossy effect of water, Halle Bailey’s strapless gown was created by Albanian designer Valdrin Sahiti. while the reflective effect of her gown is quite mesmerizing on its own, what added to Bailey’s mermaid-esque look was the cut of her dress. The artfully sculpted bodice seemed to recreate the shape of seashells, while the tight, body-skimming cut of her gown opened out towards the feet to create a mermaid-like shape. To complete the look, Bailey went with statement diamond earrings. As for her beauty look, the star stayed true to her on-screen persona with long, long, red locks that trailed behind her in ringlets, a wet-look smoky eye, glossy ombré lips, and a metallic chrome manicure. The overall effect was absolutely magical.

“I remember watching The Little Mermaid for the first time when I was around five years old,” Bailey revealed in this month’s issue of Vogue Arabia. “My older sisters Chloe [now 24] and Ski would pretend to be mermaids whenever we were in the swimming pool; it’s cool how it’s all come full circle.” She also shared, “I felt an immense responsibility just because of how much Ariel meant to me. It’s crazy how you think it’s just a movie. But Disney means so much to so many people. Films are like the footprint of some of these adults now, so I did feel a duty to just do it justice.” Read her full interview here.
