Hailey Bieber is hugging herself. Despite wearing black Calvin Klein jeans and a gigantic coat, we’re in Berlin and the winter wind is pushing its way through the door cracks, filling her trailer. She still manages to look glowing in spite of the cold, and remains the utmost professional as we take a seat and prepare her on the topics we’re about to discuss.

Now, revealing the theme of conversation is not common practice ahead of an interview but we’re going to get personal and want to give her a heads up. You see Bieber is in Berlin to celebrate Calvin Klein’s 50th anniversary party – she’s a brand ambassador, recently starring in the latest campaign alongside her husband Justin Bieber – and we are going to discuss her mood.

The interview topics are inspired by the Calvin Klein event itself, which offers an immersive experience taking guests through multiple rooms – exploring life in light, life in color and life in darkness – and asking personal questions that reveal individual moods. Now let’s get personal, as Bieber talks about her anxiety, her marriage and having babies with Justin Bieber

Life in Light

Describe your personal style.

I try to stay in the world of being chic, but maybe a little tomboy. It really just depends on how I feel. If I’m cold, I don’t feel like trying. I just want to be comfortable in big coats and jackets, and if it’s really hot, I want to be in cut-offs and a crop top.

Describe your current mood.

I’m sleepy (laughs). I’m very jet-lagged. I only arrived in Berlin last night.

Describe your first pair of Calvins.

I honestly don’t remember. But, I do know, for me, I wear Calvin Klein underwear every day. I sleep in them every single night. They are the most comfortable underwear I think on the planet. They’re the best. So I don’t know if I remember the first but I can say that I sleep in them literally every night.

What did you love the most about being in the current Calvin Klein campaign?

For me, it was just a really big honor. I mean I’ve never gotten to work with Calvin before. I never shot with them before and I was just excited. I thought that the campaign came out super beautiful. I was really happy to share that experience with my husband. We had a lot of fun.

Life in Darkness

Tell us something many people don’t know about you.

I’m actually a lot more shy than people think. I love people, I love conversation but I really do also enjoy keeping to myself. And, you know, I get timid easily.

What’s your biggest fear?

I have several. I hate sharks, I’m so scared of sharks. The open ocean really freaks me out, actually. So that’s probably my biggest. Don’t get me wrong, I love the ocean and the beach but thinking about being trapped in the open water scares me. It’s the unknown.

What keeps you up at night?

I get really bad anxiety at night. I feel like my thoughts all hit me at one time at night because it’s just me and my brain alone. Just the thoughts circling in my head keep me up at night for sure.

Life in Color

What are your hobbies?

It’s so funny when people ask you what your hobbies are when you’re an adult. I used to be a dancer so guess dancing, I love to dance. I love laying on the couch with my dog, and working out, trying to stay healthy. Those aren’t hobbies, just things I like to do.

What makes you happy?

Honestly, being at home with my animals and my man. I had a hard time the past couple of years, and I hated sitting still. I still don’t like it sometimes. I like to be moving around and doing things and that’s completely changed for me since being married. I love to just chill. I think I’ve had enough years of going out and having dinners and doing things with friends. Now it’s like being home, ordering food, sitting on the couch, makes me happy. My animals make me laugh. I have two cats, Sushi and Tuna and a dog, Oscar. It started with the dog and then it was like one cat, one kitten… They all hated each other for the first week, but now the three of them are best friends. We’ll come out in the morning and they’ll all be cuddled together. They just bring me so much joy. I never understood how much joy animals brought until I raised my own from little puppies. I really want another dog, actually, but we’ll see… We have a beautiful house right now.

Describe your perfect day.

I think it varies, but a perfect day for me is to be in a city that’s kind of off the map, or somewhere new that I’ve never experienced, and walk around, trying new foods. I’m a foodie and love trying new things. Every city I go to, I try to look up what’s the best restaurant in that area. So, exploring the city and its food and different culture is great. I think another perfect day for me is being at home in Canada. We have a place there and just being completely unbothered by anybody is great. Waking up and driving to get coffee and just hanging. It was the perfect fall weather the last time we were home and I just sat outside with my coffee in the sun and the leaves were all changing, and it was perfect.

What are you looking forward to the most in the future?

I think to have a family, to have kids. I’m not in a rush, there’s no babies anytime soon, but that’s definitely what I think the next phase of life will be, and I’m excited about it.

Do you want as many babies as you have dogs and cats?

(Laughs) I’m going to start with one because I have zero now and I’m going to see how that goes. I definitely want more than one, but you never know how hard it is until you’re a parent. And I’m only an animal parent at this point, so I will see when I have my first child.
