Hailey Bieber Gives Gucci’s Ancora Red Heel its First Real-World Outing

Last week, I learnt that celebrities use the word “muggle” to describe non-famous people. It served as a reminder that VIPs a) have a sense of humor, and b) are perhaps not as cool as they seem. I love seeing Kim Kardashian posing with her “muggle” friends: the girls with less than 1K followers who arrive at her lavish parties in jeans-and-nice-tops with the exaggerated grins of competition winners.

I think it harks back to a time when Kim was not the most photographed woman in the world, bringing a sense of humanity to the impenetrable gloss of a billionaire’s lifestyle. (Even if those “normal” people are, I don’t know, the descendants of media magnates who happened to attend the same private school as the Kardashian Klan). On that note: Hailey Bieber was among those who celebrated Kim’s 43rd birthday last weekend, dressed like a Starbucks order in a java-hued Prada jacket and a leather Zeynep Arcay miniskirt.

Bieber’s really been making this her “thing” over the past couple of months, retiring her uniform of denim “jorts” and crop tops and Sambas for tonal ensembles consistent with the latté make-up trend. Mixing matte textures with patent accessories, Bieber’s formula is a little less frumpish, a little more sophisticated than the traditional Sad Beige aesthetic. And so she wore this Saint Laurent handbag with Gucci’s sling-back kitten heels in a high-shine cherry-red, which debuted on Sabato de Sarno’s spring/summer 2024 catwalk less than a month ago. She looked like a poster girl for the Kering group.
