Gucci’s latest campaign for Fall 2017 is out of this world— literally. Building on the intergalactic Instagram casting videos teased in April, which featured models styled as aliens wearing Alessandro Michele’s designs, the luxury Italian house unites (well-dressed) extraterrestrials, robot humanoids, and earthlings to transport us to parallel universes.
Inspired by 1950’s and ‘60’s science fiction, more specifically the television series Star Trek, Michele, alongside fashion photographer Glen Luchford, dreamed up a series of surreal, psychedelic outer space landscapes and trippy spaceship interiors to go far-far away beyond Earth’s possibilities.
The campaign reimagines iconic sci-fi movie scenes, such as the fight between William Shatner’s Kirk and the Gorn in an early episode of Star Trek and the famous poster print image of Jack Arnold’s Creature of the Black Lagoon, where a green monster is seen carrying a clearly-distressed young woman.
