Giorgio Armani is sailing towards Dubai once again with his Cruise 2021 Show this April, scheduled to coincide with the long-awaited reopening of the iconic Italian brand’s flagship store in the Dubai Mall.
Evoking sentiments of nostalgia and highlighting the special connection he shares with the Middle Eastern city, Armani will return to launch the upcoming cruise collection amidst Expo 2020 celebrations, an entire decade after he inaugurated the first-ever Armani hotel in the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.
“I’m very happy to be back in Dubai after 10 years, especially on the occasion of the Expo 2020 which will place a great emphasis on the city,” Armani said in a statement. “Dubai is a luxurious and fascinating place with a soul focused on the future, always in pursuit of the imagination.”
Earlier this year, Armani debuted his Cruise 2020 collection in an intimate presentation at Tokyo’s National Museum, selecting Japan not because it influenced the designs, but because of Armani’s close history with the country and his return 12 years later for the reopening of the renovated Giorgio Armani tower in Ginza — a story somewhat reminiscent to his location of choice for this next show.
Various other designers are also traveling abroad for the Cruise 2021 Season with Chanel heading to Capri on May 7, Gucci in a yet-to-be-revealed location in the US on May 18, Prada traveling east to Japan on May 21, and Max Mara rounding it all out in St. Petersburg on May 25.
Although the date and venue of Armani’s cruise runway event have not yet been released, the designer will no doubt make another lasting impression on Dubai and we are all aboard for this rising fashion hub’s continued exposure in the spotlight.
