New Year: it signals an objective ‘look back’ before one surges ahead to play out the unfolding tomorrows. No-one quite captured the mix of retrospective reverie and excitement as to what lies ahead like Gigi Hadid. The debut Vogue Arabia cover star took to the English and Arabic covers of the March issue in 2017, photographed by Inez and Vinoodh. Today, she reflected back on her 2017 with a montage of her favorite covers, including both Vogue Arabia covers and her international portfolio of Vogues. Her US Vogue cover with Zayn Malik was also in the mix. (See Gigi Hadid’s fashion CV told in Vogue covers here.) Malik has also had a busy year on fashion’s front line – from his Giuseppe Zanotti collaboration to his Versus Versace collab. – he’s proved to be the ultimate power partner. See his style evo here.
Hadid changed the internet’s centre of gravity multiple times throughout 2017 (including when she told off an Islamophobic blogger), and so Vogue.me documented the cover star’s every chic move in street style and on the runway. From her pioneering collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger to her collections with Stuart Weitzman and Messika, we thought Gigi couldn’t spin another project, then she launched her Maybelline line.
From walking for the major fashion houses at the bi-annual fashion month to starring in major campaigns for Moschino and Adidas, the model reviewed her year with an appreciative, heartfelt Insta caption: “Starting 2018 very grateful and humbled for what 2017 brought me. Beyond these photos are experiences and friendships that are far more meaningful than I could have ever dreamed of,” reflected Hadid.
Hadid continued in her New Year Instagram post: “Thank you to everyone who made each of these opportunities so special to me, you have impacted my life beyond the surface and I am honored & touched reminiscing on the year… I can’t wait to create more in 2018 and wish everyone a New Year filled with the love and light you all deserve ! ✨ BIG LOVE xG”
