Shortly after landing her first ever campaign for Prada Spring 2019, Gigi Hadid made her debut on the Italian label’s runway for the very first time at the Fall 2019 menswear show in Milan this weekend— almost five years since her catwalk debut in 2014. The 23-year-old took to the coveted runway wearing a printed, blue shirt dress layered underneath a black top. Her signature blowout was traded in for a boyish pixie cut replete with piece-y bangs created by the legendary Guido Palau.
The weight of the accomplishment was not lost on the part-Palestinian model who took to Instagram to share her pure excitement and joy. “Just when you think more dreams couldn’t come true ….. ✨ So honored to walk @PRADA FW ‘19 tonight,” wrote Hadid.
However, many fans were quick to speculate why it had taken five-years for the supermodel to step onto the catwalk for Prada. Some users on Twitter suggested that her manager Luiz Mattos had been “booking the same shows and magazines.”
Hadid, who has a streak of defending herself and her loved ones on social media, was quick to stick up for her longtime manager, responding to the tweet: “My manager doesn’t just say yes to everything for money. That doesn’t mean the options don’t come. This industry is about strategizing so that nights like last night could happen… and we have more coming. Until you have been an agent for 23 years do not speak on Luiz.”
And she didn’t stop there. The model went on to address why she is choosing to keep a low-profile recently. “Also, I should say… In the last year or so I’ve learned the balance that I need in my life to stay physically and mentally healthy and happy,” she wrote on Twitter. “Jobs I take are for a reason, as are jobs I pass on. Many people aren’t blessed with a team that understands & supports them in that way,” she stated.
The model concluded by saying she gets annoyed when people “talk and have opinions on situations and people they know nothing about,” describing her agent as “a kind, hardworking, intelligent person”. #FriendshipGoals.
