Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have broken up after over two years of being together. The popstar confirmed the split on his Twitter account with an official statement, and asked for privacy. “Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend,” he tweeted. “She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time…”

Echoing his statement, the Palestinian-American model also took to the social media platform to imply that the split was amicable. “Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years. . . not only in the relationship, but in life in general. I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared,” she wrote.

“Zigi,” as the former couple’s fans affectionately called them started dating in 2015 and have gone on to cement themselves as one of fashion’s most dynamic duo. In early 2016, their relationship reached peak status when Hadid appeared in the singer’s Pillowtalk music video. However, they didn’t make their relationship public until they attended the 2016 Met Gala together, wearing coordinating outfits— naturally.
