Georges Hobeika Takes a Sartorial Trip to Seoul for Spring 2019

His designs are renowned for their gentle romance and subtle glamour, but for next season, Georges Hobeika has embraced an industrial edge. The Lebanese couturier has unveiled his Spring 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection, a glimmering, mesmerizing fusion of high-octane detailing and futuristic embellishments.

Entitled Soul of Seoul, the line takes style notes from the South Korean capital, emulating the metropolis’s gleaming skyscrapers and high-tech systems with a pop of metallics, chrome accents, and modern, architectural cuts. However, that’s not to say there’s no softness to the collection, with delicate florals and ethereal transparent tulles scattered throughout, bringing a certain lightness to the urban inspiration. Almost Studio-54-inspired stripes make an appearance on plunging gowns and jumpsuits, while sequin-encrusted minis shine as bright as the city’s lights against a dark night’s sky.

“It’s a powerful collection that blends the features of a futuristic metropolis and pop culture with mesmerizing ancestry and tradition,” Hobieka tells Vogue.me. “Transparency over the opaque and shimmering multicolor stripes alongside soft pastels enhanced by my signature embroidery work make this collection very special to me.”
