Known for his effortless interweaving of elegance and femininity, Lebanese designer Georges Hobeika has once again fulfilled his creative manifesto through the creation of his Fall-Winter 2020-2021 Couture collection. Showcased from the heart of Lebanon, Maison Georges Hobeika’s collection is a celebration of the Middle Eastern woman, and the strength and power rooted within her. Titled ‘Madame President,’ the collection features whimsical frills, sweeping trains, and powerfully crafted silhouettes. “This collection is a glimpse into a new era of aspirations, where women and men lead in collective strength to demand respect, equality, and a better tomorrow,” Hobeika said in a statement.
Noting his use of fashion as “a launch pad for what ‘could be,'” Hobeika’s latest collection foreshadows better days to come. Reminiscent of decadence and luxury, the deeply saturated colors and delicately embellished fabrics espouse power, hope, and creative excellence, which when juxtaposed against the dark hues of the overall showcase solemnly references much of what the world is experiencing in response to an unsettling global pandemic. “There is no denying the world is collectively going through a hard time,” Hobeika says. “We’re feeling that especially in our dear country [of Lebanon].”
Having created his label in 1995, Hobeika was initially inspired by the sparkling shores of the Mediterranean sea before being summoned by the spirit of haute couture. Much like his latest pursuit, his first collection was created and presented in his beloved Beirut, after which, international success took him to Paris, where he now owns a standalone showroom in the city’s prestigious Rue Royale. Upon gaining global acclamation for his work, Hobeika was named an elected Guest Member of La Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in 2017, a position he maintains today alongside designers such as Zuhair Murad and Ralph & Russo. With his offering of haute couture, ready-to-wear, bridal, handbags and accessories, Hobeika continues to lead women world over on an elegant and exciting journey of sartorial wonder.
