Kristen Stewart has been announced as the face of the new Chanel bag, named the Gabrielle, reports WWD this morning. The soon to be released Gabrielle handbag was revealed to the fashion throng on the Spring 2017 runway; a double chain handle hobo with a crisp, flat bottom. Kristen and the Gabrielle will unite on a shoot that is allegedly booked in a secret location outside of Paris.
No stranger to modeling in front of Karl Lagerfeld’s lens, Stewart co-starred in the 2015 accessories campaign with long-standing Chanel muses Vanessa Paradis and Alice Dellal. The Café Society actress posed with the 11.12 handbag transforming before her loyal fan base from cult movie star into the face of Chanel. Stewart has since become a regular on the front row at Chanel Couture and ready-to-wear collections, clad in the fashion house’s finest mix of leather and bouclé.
“You don’t see anyone in the front row who has nothing to say about the brand.”
Chanel’s President of Fashion, Bruno Pavlovsky told British Vogue in October 2016.
Lagerfeld’s fondness for the movie star is widely documented. “She is a real personality. I don’t compare her to any other actress and she is really modern, whatever that means,” Lagerfeld reflected earlier this year, states WWD. Fashion’s most prolific Creative Director and Hollywood’s favorite leading lady (starring in four major film releases this 2016, in an overall filmography that exceeds 44 titles) have collaborated in film, too. In December 2015, Chanel released the short biopic film Once and Forever, directed by Lagerfeld, and starring Stewart as the young Gabrielle Chanel.
Stewart is the face of Chanel makeup, leading the Métiers d’Art collections campaigns, the eyewear collections, and, in October, the On The Road star fronted the Rouge Allure Ink campaign. “It’s never labor intensive because that is against the nature of spontaneous art,” stated Stewart.
